Dickens World

Apparently a new Charles Dickens theme park is about to open at the end of next month.

I’ve been a lifelong fan of Dickens (I remember reading Great Expectations at the age of 11, and still read his books now), and have always been fascinated in the history surrounding his works, so I can’t wait for this! The entry fee is a very reasonable £12.50 for adults and £7.50 for kids, so not too expensive either. At least if you don’t factor in the travel costs to London from the north of England anyway.

Ooops

Whilst messing around with the Spam Karma plugin last night I somehow managed to delete everyone’s comments on this post. Sorry!

I think that’s the only post that was effected anyway. I could restore a backup but I’d done a bit of tweaking to the theme inbetween time and that would mean exporting and importing and blah blah blah. If I’m honest I can’t really be bothered just to restore 3 or so comments. My apologies. I blame the puppy. :)

It’s too damn hot!

And set to get hotter all through the week. I’ve no idea how people in Australia cope, I feel like a piece of wet lettuce and these temperature are nowhere near what they’d reach there. Still, it’s nice to have so much sunshine, just wish it would cool off a tad. My hayfever has been pretty bad this year too, which really doesn’t help irritability levels.

Hubby just left for the week again. You’d think after 2 years of him working away from home that it would have gotten easier by now. It hasn’t, I hate it. We pretty much get one full day a week together, for the rest of the time I feel like there’s a huge hole in my life. Still, it won’t be forever (at least I hope not). We have a few plans to explore, with a bit of luck if they come to fruition he’ll be working from home once again. A much better situation for all of us.

I’m glad to say I’ve been off anti-depressants for a while now (since I went to Cornwall), and haven’t noticed any major dips in my general mood. I’ve had a few off days in the last couple of months but on the whole I’m feeling miles better. And my sleeping pattern has improved a lot too. Or at least it had until the hot weather came along, but I’m hoping that’s a temporary glitch.

Not much else to report. Oh, except that Jessie is doing really well, growing lots and chewing lots! And by the end of the month I will be getting some new baby rats to keep my poor old boy Twitch (well, and me!) happy, and a baby African Pygymy hedgehog.

Yes, you read right, a hedgehog. I know, I’m turning into that crazed animal woman that all the kids on the street are a teeny bit scared of. :)

It’s just a bite…

My (13 year old) daughter came in from the park last Tuesday with what looked like a few insect bites. In the days that followed she complained that they were really painful. Knowing how she can sometimes lay it on a teeny bit thick ‘Stop being such a wuss’ says I, ‘it’s only a few insect bites, it’ll soon clear up.’

A week later and they were still there, and she was still complaining (and Monday she also vomited). Hmm…ok, maybe not insect bites then. So off to the doctors we went yesterday.

‘Hmm….that’s shingles’ says he.

‘Ooops’ says I.

How guilty do I feel….!

Look no title

Similar to ‘look no hands’ – mainly because I’m not feeling very imaginative today. Sometimes I just really can’t be bothered to think of a fitting title for a post.

Anyway, all I really wanted to say was that due to my own stupidity in tripping over the step at the front door I’ve had an ultra boring weekend. Saturday afternoon was spent in the local hospital’s accident and emergency department. I had such a lot of pain in my left ankle/foot, and no swelling at all, I was worried I’d actually broken something. Not helped by the fact that I was also in pain with my right wrist, so I couldn’t even support myself very well as I hobbled along. To cut a long story short x-rays were done on both foot and wrist, and nothing was broken, just a nasty sprain in both foot and wrist. Which was a huge relief, I didn’t really fancy having my foot in plaster!

But, that did mean that I was pretty much unable to do anything more than sit there for the whole weekend. I couldn’t even use my laptop much either due to pain in my wrist, so I’ve been bored witless. The good news is that it’s now eased up a lot, I can hobble round much much faster now and the pain in my wrist has all but gone. So hopefully I’ll be able to sort the design out here over the next few days. Providing of course I manage to not have any more clumsy accidents.
