Yahoo 360

Everyone seems to be talking about Yahoo 360 lately, and yesterday XeroCool kindly sent me a beta invite for the service.

After looking round for less than half an hour, I can’t really see what all the fuss is about. There’s virtually no blog customisation, very limited features, and it just looks plain boring to me. I’ll take WordPress over this any day. Actually I think even Blogger beats this.

There are however community features (list of friends, shared email lists etc) so if you’re into that sort of thing then I guess it’s a useful too. Otherwise, I wouldn’t bother. Having said that, it is in beta so maybe a lot more is planned.

If you want to check this out for yourself leave a comment (with a valid email address) and I’ll send you an invite. First come first served.

Creative director – who me?

I received quite a surprising email last night from a certain person known as Root.

In it were words (pertaining to me) such as creative director, creative abilities, and gaining a bigger audience. I will admit for a while there I thought he’d sent the email to the wrong person!

Anyway, the long and short of it is that Root has asked me to collaborate on the Aphrodite project with him as creative director. That title sounds far too posh for me (all I really do is tinker with colours after all!), but I readily accepted. I am both honoured to be asked, and proud to take part in such a project.

Here’s to Aphrodite, I’m very much looking forward to getting my crayons out and colouring her in!

Coffee Cup

Well I’ve done it, no turning back now.

Theme has been sent off to Alex King, and I’ve asked Matt to add me to the themes repository so I can upload it there too.

All the details for the theme are here including the download link. I’m not expecting it to be overly popular so the bandwidth shouldn’t be a problem, but if it does get too much then I’ll just link to the themes repository.

All in all I’m glad to give something back. I just hope Khaled and Root, Joshua and whoever else contributed to Manji2 don’t mind the butchery to their elegant theme. ;)

Updated 5:50 pm

I realised that static pages wouldn’t work when written using the default template. After checking it seems that there was no page.php file, so I’ve put one together as best I can. The zip file is now updated.

And I thought I’d checked everything, gah!

Theme competition?

I’ve been playing with a theme for the last couple of days, wondering if I should enter the Alex King Theme Competition.

Is it good enough? Enough of a change from Manji2? I wouldn’t really call it a theme, more of a style, but I think the semantics on that has been argued to death on the WP forums and people seem to have submitted ‘styles’ as well as themes.

Anyway, opinions would be appreciated. The css may not be perfect in places, but then I am a relative beginner at this stuff.

I’m still ironing out last minute things, but it’s pretty much done. Oh, and the theme switcher on my sandbox is refusing to work for some unkown reason. Grrrr. (edit Turns out to be a cookie problem, cleared cookies and all was well. Phew. )
