mjjzf – Sure, and I do that with every other online project I’ve ever done. However I actually need to make some money and this is one of the ways I’m considering doing it. I don’t have a ‘day job’ to rely on – at least not one that gives me any money.

Interesting, though there’s a big difference between ‘free’ and ‘open source’, and I don’t have a physical product. Certainly food for thought though, thanks. :)

I just read a blog post from YouTube’s blog about Monty Python sales being up 23,000% since they opened their YouTube Channel. That’s amazing growth! http://www.youtube.com/blog?entry=n-q9Enl2O2Y

It’s not blogging, but is free content that is leading people to buy product. A clear indication that content is king and a marketable product, easy to purchase must be easily linked.

Leo Babauta (http://zenhabits.net/) is a blogger who has taken the open source model and used that: he renounced all copyright on all content on his blog, and still makes a living off of it.

I’m taking my time with this project too, want to get it right this time. Lots of mulling over to do with various ideas.

Generating revenue is something I’m almost totally clueless on, so it should be interesting!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Jackie. I’m toying with a website myself and am thinking about this as well. On thing I need to research is the idea of sharing revenue with other contributors. Not sure what I will do or how fast it will happen but am toying with trying a more professional, “with purpose” website as well.
